About The Artist
I’m McKayla, but my community calls me MAC. I’ve been passionate about art since I could hold a pencil. I can’t recall a moment when I wasn’t either physically creating with pencils and paint or mentally planning my next masterpiece.
Spotted Beauty
24 x 36 Acrylic on Canvas
Spotted Beauty is a piece featuring a rare Mozambique Leopard Shark and is one of my most impressive works with extensive attention to value. The detail in the shadows that wrap and cradle the shark, give this piece wonderful subtle impressions of its fins. The dots were definitely the most challenging part and I am pleased to say the different values created in each shadow with the dots give it a excellent indication of realism.
Familiar Places
16x 20 Acrylic on Canvas Board
Familiar Places was a piece I truly enjoyed painting. I was inspired by the abundance of local Aspen Trees all over Utah’s mountains. Just before I painted this piece I had gone on a hike in the snowy Utah Mountains with a close friend and the urge to paint these trees was impossible to ignore. I chose to add the rich fall colored leaves and foliage to give this piece the dark and acadian beauty that aspens so wonderfully compliment with their rich texture and illuminating white accents.
Meet Cute
9×12 Coffee on watercolor paper
Meet Cute came to be when I was demonstrating for my students how to paint with Coffee in a watercolor technique. I had my class pick the reference they wanted me to use to demonstrate, and the magic just happened from there. The thing I love the most about coffee watercolors, is how much range you can get with values if you use the coffee mixtures properly.
