Hello!

I’m McKayla, but my community calls me MAC. I’ve been passionate about art since I could hold a pencil. I can’t recall a moment when I wasn’t either physically creating with pencils and paint or mentally planning my next masterpiece. As I grew older and considered the responsibility of providing for myself and a family, I worried about losing the opportunity to always create. I hoped to be fortunate enough to pursue art as a career.

No other career outside of creating seemed satisfying. The more I explored other options, the less anything seemed worthwhile. I eventually concluded that I needed a career involving art to be happy in adulthood. After years of searching, I found my fit in teaching. I attended Dixie State University and earned my Bachelor’s in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Visual Arts. In 2017, I signed with the school where I currently teach and have never looked back. While teaching art in a public setting can be challenging, I love the impact I can have on today’s youth.

Teaching also allows me to explore my own art and material usage, shaping me into the strong and well-versed artist I am today. I learn new techniques daily to teach my students, allowing me to gracefully jump from subject to subject and material to material, delving deep into my soul to find love and passion for my work.

Some may think not having a “niche” puts me at a disadvantage, but I believe embracing my natural creative state enhances my potential and creativity. I hope you find it as enjoyable and intriguing as I do.

A bit about myself: I live in a small, humble home in Ogden, Utah, where my kitchen, guest room, and living room double as a makeshift art studio. My husband, Quinn, doesn’t tolerate my artistic spread out, he actively encourages and supports this side of me, even when it’s inconvenient. We happily share our home with our two dogs, enjoying wildlife opportunities, hiking, fishing, kayaking, and swimming. My other hobbies include reading, writing, singing, learning about Art History and exploring spiritual outlets.
